June 22 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Limited Early Bird Tickets on sale now, $12

Join the Oregon Psilocybin Society at Salem’s Historic Grand Theatre on Saturday evening, June 22nd, as we journey into cutting edge psilocybin science and theory. The evening begins with a screening of “A New Understanding,” a powerful film exploring psilocybin assisted therapy as an intervention for end-of-life anxiety. Robert Barnhart, the film’s producer and a board member of both MAPS and the Heffter Research Institute, will take the stage to share his inspirations with the audience after the film. Next will be a new installment of “Voices of the Coalition” – words of support, insight, and inspiration from special guests of the PSI 2020 ballot initiative campaign. OPS founders and campaign architects Sheri & Tom Eckert will bring things to a close with an update and Q & A.

Synopsis of the Film:

A New Understanding (running time: 54 minutes) explores the treatment of end-of-life anxiety in terminally ill cancer patients using psilocybin, the psychoactive compound found in “psychedelic” mushrooms, to facilitate deeply spiritual experiences. The documentary explores the confluence of science and spirituality in the first psychedelic research studies with terminally ill patients since the 1970’s.

Through the eyes of patients, their loved ones, therapists and researchers, the film examines the use of psilocybin in a controlled setting to reduce psychospiritual anxiety, depression, and physical pain. The treatment aims to help the patient understand that a ‘good’ death is possible, and to help the patient’s family deal well with the dying process.

Producer’s Statement:

“Through the vehicle of this film, compelling scientific research is communicated that may assist in changing the legality of psilocybin. Legalizing this medicine to make it available as part of a therapeutic practice to those people who can benefit from this treatment would mean accessibility for end of life patients to experience profoundly more positive states of being.
